Swedish terms, in brief

SGU
Sveriges geologiska undersökning, the Geological Survey of Sweden. The state agency responsible for mapping the country's geology and managing mineral information.
Bergsstaten
The mining inspectorate. A division of SGU, headed by the bergmästare (chief mining inspector), which decides applications for exploration permits and mining concessions.
Bolagsverket
The Swedish Companies Registration Office. Maintains the national registers of limited companies, board members and beneficial owners, and enforces annual report filing.
Undersökningstillstånd
An exploration permit. Grants the right to search for metals or minerals within a defined area, normally for three years. Does not grant the right to mine.
Bearbetningskoncession
A mining concession. The separate, considerably stricter permission required before any extraction can begin.
Verklig huvudman
Beneficial owner. The natural person who ultimately owns or controls a company, as required to be registered under EU anti-money-laundering directives.
Årsredovisning
Annual report. Mandatory filing for Swedish limited companies; late submission triggers escalating fees and, eventually, compulsory liquidation proceedings.
